Bug Where HBS Creates A Duplicate Folder That Cannot Be Deleted

I am using Version 4.9.5 on Windows 11 24H2.
These are the steps which lead to a duplicate folder being created on the drive selected to take the backups.

1. Make a System backup. This works fine and a folder with the task name and backup file inside appears on the drive selected.
2. In the list on the Home page of HBS I choose 'Delete' from the Actions menu, but do not select 'Delete Image' as well.

If I then look on the target drive where the backups are being saved I find that a duplicate folder, with exactly the same name, has been created - but with nothing inside it. If I try to delete this duplicate folder, Windows Explorer throws an error - "Could not find this item ... This is no longer located in..."

So the original folder, with the backup file inside is there and can be deleted but the second duplicate folder, with the same name and nothing inside it, cannot be deleted. Why is HBS creating this second duplicate, non-removeable folder?

Otherwise HBS is a fantastic program.

HBS doesn't create duplicate folders, and technically Windows doesn't allow folders with the same name to be created in the same location, so we recommend that you check to see if there are any file system errors on that drive.

Obviously HBS shouldn't create duplicate folders - but it did. When this happened the first time, the only way I could get rid of the duplicate folder for to reformat the drive. That should have fixed any filing system errors. Then it happened again. Have you tried the steps I described? I will try it on another drive when I get a moment and report back.

Are you kidding? I've done this at least a hundred times personally, and I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones on this forum who have performed it, but no one has reported similar problems. Are you sure that the folder names are exactly the same? And the files in the folder are the same?

The undeletable duplicate folder does not have anything in it. I will carry out some in depth tests on an empty drive (if I can find one) and get back to you.

I have occasionally seen this issue on windows in some other situations & it seems to be due to some windows bug which shows a deleted empty folder in windows explorer but it is not actually there so if you again try to delete it you get an error. Try rebooting your pc to see if it makes such folder disappear as usual.
