For a test I did a backup via network to the public folder of the internal SSD (win 11 machine) which worked flawlessly.
Another test to a different (single, no docking station) usb drive (plugged directly, no network) worked too.
The same drive plugged to the remote machine failed with "access denied" as the usb docking station did.
So it seems pretty obvious to me that something doesn't like the connection to a remote usb drive.
Since explorer and other programs don't have problems connecting I now run out of ideas.
Edit:
I made some more tests with symlinks and hardlinks to the remote usb drive - no success.
@admin:
Can you confirm that HBS doesn't support remote usb drives?
I found a interim solution:
VirtualHere USB Server
It's not really elegant but at least it enables me to do backups. Sometimes there are errors while trying to connect, but when it's connected it is stable.
As I'm running 4 computers with 6 systems (multiboot) I now have to install the client everywhere.
And I cannot choose the letter, it's always on the next available which in my case is J:\ - no matter which physical drive is used on the server. Preprogrammed confusion.
I still would prefer the network share method if a solution can be found.
