Network-Share: Access denied

No, Macrium is only on the win 10 computer.

But I was wrong, the files didn't show as hidden, I just was not used to how *.txt files look now on win 11. This machine (mini-pc) is new and and acts mainly as Jellyfin-server.
But I had another strange behaviour: I tried to start Editor there directly and it said "not found". After the 4th or so try it worked. Since then I can open all the mentioned *.txt files.

I installed Hasleo BS on that machine now just to see if it works without network hullabaloo. Everything is fine. Unfortunately that doesn't help me and on the win 10 machine it still tells me "acces denied" though it can see the changed folder structure now when I'm asked for the target.

I'm thinking about a complete fresh win 11 install on that sucker.

For a test I did a backup via network to the public folder of the internal SSD (win 11 machine) which worked flawlessly.
Another test to a different (single, no docking station) usb drive (plugged directly, no network) worked too.
The same drive plugged to the remote machine failed with "access denied" as the usb docking station did.

So it seems pretty obvious to me that something doesn't like the connection to a remote usb drive.
Since explorer and other programs don't have problems connecting I now run out of ideas. Undecided

Edit:
I made some more tests with symlinks and hardlinks to the remote usb drive - no success.
@admin:
Can you confirm that HBS doesn't support remote usb drives?

I found a interim solution:
VirtualHere USB Server
It's not really elegant but at least it enables me to do backups. Sometimes there are errors while trying to connect, but when it's connected it is stable.
As I'm running 4 computers with 6 systems (multiboot) I now have to install the client everywhere.
And I cannot choose the letter, it's always on the next available which in my case is J:\ - no matter which physical drive is used on the server. Preprogrammed confusion.
I still would prefer the network share method if a solution can be found.

Technically the remote USB drive you're talking about is in fact a Windows Remote Shared Folder, except that the shared folder is on the USB drive, and from a programming standpoint there's no difference between a shared folder being on a USB drive and being on an internal disk.

We tested and there were no issues backing up to a network share folder on a remote USB drive.

The solution: Idea

I had to grant full control to Everyone! In the "Sharing"-tab and the "Security"-tab! At least on this win 11 / 23H2 machine!

This was a hard (difficult) birth as we'd say in germany. Thanks a lot for the support !!!

Glad to hear you've found a solution, it's a weird problem indeed.

Addendum:

All that hassle described here only happened with a WD-HDD (2TB) I used for testing. 3 other HDDs I now plugged into the docking station - 2 more WD (1,5 TB) and a Hitachi (1TB) - worked as described earlier here by admin in post #8. No need to grant full control to everyone.

That may understand who ever wants to - I don't.
Confused Huh Dodgy

I have absolutely no idea why and have never had this weird problem before.
