You asked a user in another thread, "Is the Windows To Go USB drive a Legacy or VHD(X) mode Windows To Go?" What if it is VHD(X) mode, which mine is? The free Window to Go Upgrader v 2.9 doesn't show the VHDX on the USB drive in the GUI bars showing selection of boot and system drives, even if the VHDX is mounted with Disk Manager and assigned a drive letter. The end result of the check is an error message and the conclusion that it can't be upgraded. Is it supposed to work in VHD(X) on USB WTG installations?

When creating Windows To Go, if you select the VHD/VHDX on the following page, then we call it VHD(X) mode Windows To Go. When upgrading Windows To Go with Windows To Go Upgrader, if the Windows To Go you want to upgrade is in VHD(X) mode, Windows To Go Upgrader will only show the USB drive and will not show the VHD/VHDX disk on the USB drive, but this will not have an impact on the upgrade operation. Please note that you should not mount the VHD/VHDX because Windows To Go Upgrader requires exclusive access to the VHD/VHDX when upgrading Windows To Go. |
