Can't update v5.4.2.2 with Smart Application Control on
#1
Hi I'm using the Hasleo Backup Suite v5.4.2.2 and trying to update it via the included updater. For me it seems like Smart Application Control is blocking the update. Win 11 Pro 24H2
Any ideas besides disabling SAC?

1. Temporarily deactivate your anti-virus software or add Hasleo Backup Suite (BackupMainUI.exe, BackupService.exe, BackupWorker.exe and BackupSystemTray.exe) to the list of allowed applications (may be called Trusted Applications/Whitelisted applications) of your anti-virus software and try again.
2. Manually download and install the latest version, here are the download links:
X86/X64
ARM64

Smart Application Control is part of Windows 11, works alongside an anti-virus program and is not part of it so I don't think a whitelist will work but I certainly can't be sure that's right.
You can turn it off.

Like  CDC9762 mentioned Smart Application Controll is part of windows 11 (it's not a third party AV which can be easily enabled or disabled).

1) Afaik you can't disable and enable SAC (Smart Application Controll which is included in Windows 11) on the fly. It's either on or off forever.
I think unsigned files are not loved by SAC when you can't back them up with a big amount of users using the program.
2) Downloading and installing the full version worked without a problem even with SAC on. I would have thought it would also give problems like the internal hasleo updater but so far it's ok.

At  CDC9762:
Thank's for the info. I consider SAC a usefull tool to warn/remind me if I use software that's unsigned (and/or has a smaller userbase). For the signed well known files it was so far always quiet. I'd rather not disable it and lose a free security tool when afaik you can't enable it afterward without regtweaks or worse.

Thank you both for your helpfull replys Smile

Sadly I can't edit the post anymore. Just to be clear I meant Smart App Control (SAC) @Admin

Microsoft said "There is currently no way to bypass Smart App Control protection for individual apps. You can turn Smart App Control off, or (better yet), contact the developer of the app and encourage them to sign their app with a valid signature.", unfortunately, we currently do not have a code signing certificate. Regarding why we do not have a code signing certificate, please refer to:

SAC is just another MS PITA, like Smart screen in Win 10.
To disable/enable SAC see here:

I don't see too much advantage in using SAC but there is a little. Not much if you are a careful browser and downloader.
Problem with the On/Off appears to be that you cannot turn it back on after turning off unless you do a reset or clean install. MS' idea is that this avoids turning it on after bad stuff has already been loaded.

billmcct and  CDC9762 Thank you both for your suggestions.

As long as the SAC update problem can be fixed with just using the full installer instead of the internal Hasleo updater (which I haven't thought about Blush ) i'm ok with that.

So I'm happy to be able to use Hasleo while still having SAC and need no further help atm.

Thank you all for your help.

Well hell, just tried to update Hasleo on my win 10 and all of a sudden Windows Smart Screen is turned back on.
Haven't found a way to bypass this. The Registry says it is OFF.
However the internal updater work just fine. I have several others that can;t install.
