Impossible situation recovery
#1
1. Created a File Backup with encryption
2. Forgot password (the known password does not work)

So cannot mount the backup, but most important cannot delete the backup task as it requires the password. Seems the only way to recover is:
- uninstall/reinstall HBS
- delete the now useless backup files
- import all the tasks except that one
- recreate the schedules
- create a new task for the one with the incorrect password
- run a new backup

Any other suggestions?

An uninstall/reinstall of HBS will not delete your tasks. Tasks are saved here:
%ProgramData%\Hasleo Backup Suite\TaskConfig.xml

So I would suggest this:
  • Delete your file backup files related to that task (those are protected and therefore now useless)
  • Close any HBS processes
  • Make a backup copy from the TaskConfig.xml file in case something goes wrong
  • Open TaskConfig.xml as admin with an editor of your choice (e.g. Notepad++)
  • Find the correct task guid from the list:
Hit Win+R, then run this command to get a list with all tasks:
    cmd /k "%ProgramFiles%\Hasleo\Hasleo Backup Suite\bin\BackupCmdUI.exe" /a tasks
  • Search in TaskConfig.xml for a task with your specific guid
  • Delete the found task from TaskConfig.xml (everything from <task... to ...</task>)
  • Save TaskConfig.xml, close file
Now restart HBS and the task should be gone from the list.
If an error occurred, close HBS again and restore from your saved TaskConfig.xml file.

Please keep in mind that if you delete a task this way, system logs for that task remain under Tools / View Logs. You might want to delete those.

Hope that helps Smile

@al3x Many thanks, those steps worked well. The Tools / View Logs is quite useless as it only shows generic starts and ends without the associated task name.
