Wake PC to run backup

This feature works successfully to wake-up a desktop PC to run the backup tasks, but does this not work on my ASUS laptop.

The laptop is not powered off, just the lid closed overnight. The Event Viewer is full of entries of events that have run while the lid is closed, e.g., UserModePowerService that seems to have an entry every minute, or Microsoft Windows security auditing that has lots of entries.

It is just a minor inconvenience as these task start as soon as the laptop is opened.

What I think is a little odd is that you said Windows is constantly writing event logs. If you closed the lid, is your laptop actually going in standby?

Besides that, could it be that the current power plan in Windows is set to not allow wake timers?

Try searching for "Edit power plan" in start menu. This should bring you to your currently set power plan in the old control panel.
From there, click on "change advanced power settings".
Under "Sleep" > "Allow wake timers" there should be one or two options, depending on desktop or laptop. Make sure those are set to "Enable".



Besides those settings there might also be additional settings in BIOS that need tweaking to allow wake up, but those usually are set correctly if not touched.

Can't be much help but investigate Modern Standby if you are running out of options. There were issues with it a while back by Macrium users.

FYI. The ASUS Zenbook has a fast start feature, so when plugged in the screen comes on instantly when the lid is opened. Windows will often install Security Intelligence Updates for Defender overnight.

The Sleep option in the power setting was Enable for Plugged In. I will check the BIOS later but not expecting to find anything there.
