WinToUSB Installation Won't Boot After Accidental BCD Deletion
#1
Hi everyone,
I've been running Windows through WinToUSB for about a year without any issues, but today I ran into a boot problem that I can't seem to resolve.
After the manufacturer's splash screen appears, I immediately get an error message stating that the Boot Configuration Data (BCD) file contains invalid information. From what I can tell, the issue is my own fault—I accidentally removed the BCD entry while using EasyBCD.
Since then, I've tried repairing the boot configuration from the Windows Recovery Command Prompt. However, when I run
Code:
bootrec /rebuildbcd
, it returns an error indicating that the specified path cannot be found. I've also attempted a few other standard boot repair steps, but so far nothing has worked.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation on a WinToUSB installation? Is there a recommended way to manually recreate the BCD store or repair the boot files when
Code:
bootrec
can't locate the Windows installation?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try the following steps to rebuild the BCD and boot files.
1. Assign drive letters to the partitions on the USB drive, for example, the small FAT32 partition is set to G:, and the large NTFS partition is set to H:

2. Run "bcdboot.exe H:\Windows /s G:" in an elevated cmd.exe.

Please make sure to specify the correct drive letter when executing the command.
