Bitlocker password length

Thankyou for including the ability to unlock bitlocker-locked partitions in Hasleo Backup Suite.
I have successfully unlocked a partition using the 48-digit recovery key. It took a long time to enter the 48-digit key.
The software has an option to unlock the partition with a password. Which password is this? Is this a Windows login password? Is this a Windows login PIN? This password has a minimum length of around 8 characters.Windows login passwords can be as short as 1 character. PINs can be as short as 4 digits. Where can I find more information on how to use a password to unlock my Bitlocked partitions?

The BitLocker password is completely different from your Windows login password or PIN. It refers specifically to the encryption password that you set for a BitLocker-protected partition. Here is a detailed breakdown of the two scenarios:

1. For manually encrypted data partitions ( e.g., drive D: or E: ):
When you manually enable BitLocker on a data partition through Windows, the system will require you to set an encryption password (typically at least 8 characters) and will also generate a 48-digit recovery key for you to save.

In this case, both the encryption password and the 48-digit recovery key can be used to unlock the partition. The unlock with password feature in Hasleo Backup Suite refers exactly to the encryption password you set during that manual process.

2. For automatically encrypted system partitions ( usually drive C: ):
When Windows uses TPM (Trusted Platform Module) for automatic encryption, the system does not ask you to set any password. The partition is unlocked automatically by the TPM chip during system startup.

As a result, such system partitions typically do not have a user-set password. The password unlock option in Hasleo Backup Suite cannot be used for these partitions, you can only unlock them using the 48-digit recovery key.


The password the software asks you to enter is the encryption password you created when you manually encrypted a data partition. If your partition was auto-encrypted by Windows (using TPM), that password simply does not exist, unless you have manually added an encryption password for that partition via the command line.
