Backup time - overlong ?
#1
Hi

I'm a new user to Hasleo Free backup suite. I just installed v 5.9.2.4 on my Win 10 desktop.

I've started a 'Disk backup'

Start time:  12:20
Est #1 (time remaining):  1hr 30
Est #2 (time remaining): 2hr47
Est #3 (time remaining): 4hr18     ; about 3% into the backup
Est #4 (time remaining):  5hr 55   ; about 4% backup
Est #5 (time remaining): 9 hr 37   ; about 8% backup

Right now it is telling me I have  10:52 remaining

I amusing 'vanilla' settings - no encryption, no compression.  My 2 TB disk is only about 12% full of data.

Is this normal? Or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the Hasleo forums!

How much data are you going to back up approximately? Are you backing up to a USB drive?

The remaining time doesn't seem normal, no. Are you sure your USB drive is connected via USB 3? If backups take a long time, this could be due to the USB port you're using, it might connect the USB drive with USB 2 only.

What you can try:
- Try copying a large file to the USB drive directly. How fast can you copy that file? If is is below 25 MB/s, you're probably using a USB 2 port instead of USB 3 or your drive firmware doesn't support faster speeds.
- Try a different USB port, preferably one of the back/rear ports on your PC if you don't use a notebook. Front ports are often limited to USB 2.

USB 3 ports are usually marked with a blue or red color instead of just being black:

But that's not guaranteed, some vendors like Dell use black ports. But if you see different colors on your board, use the blue or red ones.

Additional things to check:
- Make sure that your compression settings are at least on "Low". I wouldn't use "None", this might create much larger backups.
- Make sure you haven't ticked the Sector-by-sector option in advanced backup options. This creates a 1:1 copy of all sectors, which can take a long time.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

[A] Yes, backing up around 200 GB date to an external - USB3 -  drive

[A] Hmm.  I've suspected for a while that my USB3 extender (connected to a USB3 port at the back of my desktop)  was not performing normally. I'll do some tests.

[A] Thanks for the tips. I'm quite sure I did not check any options e.g. sector-by-sector, but I'll make sure compression is set on 'low'

Thank you al3x for your help
