Windows 10: Possible to use drive encryption on external drive with Windows 10?
Posted by: gregg098 - 03-02-2016, 11:14 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

I used WintoUSB to install Windows 10 home to an external drive. Works great right now.  If I were to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, would Bitlocker work on the drive since its booted from USB?

Or, is there a better solution that still encrypts the entire drive AND lets me boot from it?

Thanks

Can only create VHD (Legacy, VHDX grayed out) UPDATE:MUST USE WIN8/10 HOST FOR VHDX
Posted by: woody123 - 03-01-2016, 03:44 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (3)

Hello,

VHD works great, but how does one create a Legacy or VHDX stick when those options are grayed out?

I've been successful in converting the VHD to VHDX via Hyper-V Manager,

but not successful yet in getting it to boot by changing the device with BCDEDIT:

bcdedit /set {new_guid} device vhd=WinToUSB.vhdx

Is there a better procedure?

Thanks.

Performance of SanDisk Extreme 64 GB and VHDX
Posted by: SuperJMN - 02-24-2016, 08:35 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (4)

I've ran some different installations from the USB thumb drive and I usually experience severe slowdowns. Usually, the disk usage tops 100% for several minutes and the response time goes up and down from 0 to more than 16 seconds.

This is a screen capture of the Task Manager while this happens. The system, while it happens is almost unusable, and it happens quite often.

What could we do to avoid this?
Thanks!

  inaccessible boot device error
Posted by: sevano - 02-21-2016, 05:07 AM - Forum: WinToHDD - Replies (3)

Hi, thanks for the great software !

I have a specific problem, my laptops default sata harddisk cable is damaged when i tried to replace it with an ssd.

So i removed the cable and decided to buy a dvd-bay to hdd-ssd adapter and run windows from my dvd-bay, but windows was unable to install from dvd-bay and gave error on the setup page. But Ubuntu installation worked fine, so i'm thinking its not a hardware related problem.

But i needed windows and decided to use wintousb with my sandisk cz80 and have been using since, but now i saw that wintohdd is out i installed it.

The problem i'm having is, my wintousb doesn't boot when there is a ssd in the dvd-bay, and it is the only operating system to run wintohdd.

So i unmounted my ssd and put it in a usb enclosure, then run wintohdd and installed the windows 10 to the ssd succesfully.

Then i boot the usb-ssd and finished the installation. After installation is completely finished and i'm on windows desktop, i shut down the pc and take the ssd from usb enclosure and put it back to dvd-bay, hoping that it may work.

Once i booted i get this error when loading with windows logo

"inaccessible boot device error"

i searched internet and it might be "mbr" related, is there anything i can do to solve this problem ?

Thanks again for this great software!!

  Cloning stuck at 0%
Posted by: mjv - 02-19-2016, 04:40 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

Dear dev team,

I'm running Windows 10 Home (just downloaded from Microsoft) with Boot Camp on a MacBook Pro 2015.
I used the app BootIce 1.3.1 to prepare my USB 3.0 stick for UEFI with two partitions.
The first time cloning the existing worked fine (and quite quick). I just made the error that I didn't increase the virtual disk size in VHDX mode. But the Windows booting from the USB worked perfectly.
But still with too little space left, I reformatted the USB drive again.

Now however, the cloning in Windows PE seems to get stuck at 0%.
No error code whatsoever.

Thanks in advance!

Win 8.1 Pro recognised as enterprise?
Posted by: rob - 02-10-2016, 03:01 PM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

Hi Forum, I'm trying to use the free version of WinToUSB 2.8 to install Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit downloaded directly from the Microsoft VLSC as a Windows to Go partition.

However, WinToUSB gives me an error that I can't install Enterprise versions of Windows with the free version of WinToUSB.

Any tips on why WinToUSB is recognising Win 8.1 Pro as enterprise?

Thanks for any help!

Does the WinToHdd    ReInstall option    save your installed programs and settings, or just deletes existing partitions and install ?

EasyUEFI not work (worked in past)
Posted by: yelliver - 01-30-2016, 11:05 PM - Forum: EasyUEFI - Replies (6)

I don't understand why but in the past, I use this software frequently without any error. But now, whenever I edit or delete or create any boot entry and reboot, all my changes disappear. My laptop is Dell 15R 5520
I think maybe because of the new version but I don't know how to get the older version to test
