Question WinToUSB with Win7 64-bit will not boot on UEFI PC
Posted by: Galco - 06-17-2014, 12:22 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

Hi!
With no problem I created a live Windows 7 on a Kingston Ultimate 3.0 G3 USB drive. The system runs perfect on my older laptop with Windows 7.

However I cannot boot from a newer Win8.1 system. The USB drive is not listed as bootable. I already disabled "secure boot".

Do I need to create an additional EFI partition (FAT32)?
(BTW: DiskPart shows the USB drive not labeled GPT.)

Thanks!

Cheers,
Galco

Can I eventually erase windows and have a clean hard drive?
Posted by: eazye - 06-14-2014, 04:52 PM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (3)

Is it possible to reverse this process and is it easy? Would I just plug in the hard drive while windows is running from my desktop and format the drive with the windows tool? Thanks

Blue screen of death Windows 8.1
Posted by: nzmen - 05-21-2014, 03:54 PM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

Hi there,

I think that the idea to run full Windows 8 from USB is great.

I downloaded your software and tried to put Windows 8.1 on a 16gb flash drive (Kept failing through the process around 12% with a file copy error)

I decided to buy an External hard drive enclosure and put my old 640Gb laptop drive in it.

It went through the process and said that everything is ready. I reboot my computer from the USB drive and about 10 seconds after I saw the Windows 8 booting screen I got blue screen.

I'm attaching a screenshot of error message. Any idea I'm getting this problem?

Thanks in advance,

Isaac

HI:

This is just a heads-up about an issue you may not know off......

After prepping a Windows 7 external USB HD everythings works GREAT.....

..... UNTIL the drive is accidentally plugged into a PC booted from Windows 8.1.

Apparently 8.1 modifies something on the HD because the next time I boot from the W7 USB Ext drive, the boot fails (after showing the W7 startup logo) by dropping back to the BIOS display screen.

It boots again and this time gives me the option to run a bootup repair or continue starting windows normally. I continue starting windows normally and everything if fine.

Everything keeps working fine unless I once again plug the ext drive into a W8.1 booted computer. Then it does the same routine again.

Windows 8 certainly does something to the ext drive to mess it up for W7 booting.

Boowho??

  Problem getting WinToUSB to boot
Posted by: jziggy101 - 04-22-2014, 03:16 AM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (1)

I have a spare SSD (64gig) that I am trying to use WinToUSB on. I have tried creating a 110mb partition formated either NTFS or Fat32 and the rest of the drive as the boot partition formated at ntfs. I am using a Windows 8.1 Enterprise ISO as the source. Each time I run the WinToUSB utility it writes to the selected partitions but when I try to boot off that ssd drive I get an error telling me that there is no boot partition and it fails.

You docs do not mention creating the necessary partitions and I using the ssd that was formatted as one partition. I thought maybe your utility would partition the drive for me but apparently not.

Should I try a different win8.1 version? Pro instead of Enterprise? x86 instead of x64?

Support for 'Install.esd' based ISO Images
Posted by: devdevadev - 04-19-2014, 04:24 PM - Forum: WinToUSB (Best Windows To Go Creator) - Replies (2)

Hello Sir,

'WinToUSB' is really an excellent and unique piece of Tool for 'Windows to GO'. But we need 'install.esd' too.

Specially I need support of 'install.esd' based AIO ISO Images.
i.e.

Currently I am using DISM method for 'install.esd' based ISOs.

If you convert it into GUI, then It will be more useful for us.

I'm at the forum, it says not to post problems. I'm experiencing problems with WinToUsb and I'd like to report them somewhere please.
