User Guide: How to use WinToUSB to clone Windows to a USB drive as portable Windows?

  1. Connect the destination external hard drive or flash drive to the computer with an installed copy of WinToUSB.
  2. Please use the following guidelines to prepare the partitions if you are using an external hard drive to create Windows To Go. You do not need to perform this step if you are using a USB flash drive to create Windows To Go, WinToUSB will help you to format the USB flash drive in setp 5. Tips:
    1. Both the system partition and boot partition must be primary partition, and we recommend using built-in Disk Management tool in Windows to partition and format the disk.
    2. The destination boot partition must be a NTFS partition, and it must be 20% larger than the used space on source boot partition.
    3. The destination system partition must be a NTFS/FAT32 partition. If the destination system partition is a FAT32 partition, then it must be greater than or equal to 40 MB and less than or equal to 32 GB. (The recommended size is 100 MB.)
    4. Sector by sector clone option enables you to clone all sectors from source boot partition to destination boot partition, so the destination boot partition must be greater than or equal to the source boot partition.
  3. Download, install and run WinToUSB.
  4. Click the System Clone Icon button, then click "Next".
